Invisible workers: a joint media investigation on migrant farmworkers

In a joint investigation, titled "Invisible Workers" led by Lighthouse Reports, featuring Der Spiegel, Mediapart, Euronews, the Guardian, Follow the Money and the Investigative Reporting Project Italy, dozens of farmworkers, most of them migrants, are interviewed in several countries about their work and living conditions. This activity allows an important perspective to emerge which has often been neglected by mainstream media. In public debates, since the beginning of the health emergency, the elements that strongly emerged are: the centrality of food and its interdependence with the concept of health; the fragility of agro-industrial chains and global food chains but also the ability to take advantage of moments of crisis on the part of key players; at the same time one of the strongest elements emerging from debates is the declared essentiality of migrant workers for the functioning of the agro-food system. But what about the health and general conditions of those migrant workers defined as essentials?
