The Scottish Government, in its official response to a call for evidence from the UK Government’s Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), has stated that the introduction of any Australian-style points-based immigration system in the UK must recognise Scotland’s unique needs. The Scottish Government Migration Minister Ben Macpherson MSP as part of the response warned that demographic pressures in Scotland meant that a tailored approach was required to ensure inward migration to Scotland. The Scottish Government response, also warns against the introduction of any salary threshold to restrict migration and calls on the UK Government to allow for more time to develop detailed plans.
